Invermoriston is an
often overlooked
small hamlet 7 miles north of Fort Augustus, in the Highlands of
Scotland. The village is on the A82 road, at a junction with the
A887 along the western shore of Loch Ness. The village's most
visited attraction is the Thomas Telford bridge, built in 1813,
which crosses the spectacular River Moriston falls. This bridge
used to form part of the main road between Drumnadrochit and
Fort Augustus but was replaced in the 1930s with the new bridge
used today.

Invermoriston itself dates back to at least 1600, and in the 1640s a sawmill
was in operation processing the surrounding woodland for export by boat.
Although there were tracks in the 1770s, the first real roads along the west
side of Loch Ness and west towards Glen Shiel were built by Thomas
Telford in 1813.
